Viewing Execution Comments

Imagine you are auditing a critical Job failure that occurred several months ago. You have located the execution in the Archive Browser and reviewed its reports, but the logs alone do not explain why the process was abruptly canceled. Did an operator manually intervene? What was the justification?

When an operator or administrator intervenes in a process within the Automic Automation Client, they often leave manual notes or comments attached to the execution to explain their actions. The Archive Browser preserves these user-entered comments, providing a vital historical audit trail. This ensures you can review exactly what happened and why a manual decision was made during a specific run, even years after the fact.

Finding Executions with Operator Notes

If you are specifically auditing manual interventions, you do not need to check every execution one by one. You can use the powerful filtering capabilities of the Executions list to instantly find annotated records.

To filter for Executions with Comments

  1. In the main Executions view, click the Filter button in the toolbar.

  2. Click Add Filter Criteria and select Has Comment field.

  3. Select Only show executions with comments and click Apply Filter.

The resulting list display only the historical runs that contain operator notes, allowing you to focus your audit strictly on executions with manual interventions.

Accessing the Comments View

To view the notes associated with a historical run, you access them from the same dedicated workspace used for viewing reports.

  1. Double-click the target execution in the main Executions list to open the Reports view. The application opens the dedicated execution workspace, which displays a comprehensive summary header at the top.

  2. Just below the execution's header summary, click the Comments tab.

Note: If the Comments column in the main Executions list indicated that no comments exist for this specific run, this tab will be empty.

Reading User Comments

The Comments view presents a straightforward chronological list of all notes attached to the run. The list helps you quickly identify who took action and when, including the following columns:

  • Timestamp: The exact date and time the comment was added.

  • Comment: The text of the note left by the operator.

  • User: The specific user account and department that authored the comment.

Inspecting Full Comment Details

If a user left a particularly long note, the text might stretch beyond the visible width of the Comment column. Instead of resizing columns or struggling to read truncated text, you can use the Details panel for a cleaner reading experience:

  1. Select the specific comment row you want to read.

  2. Click the Details button located at the top right of the toolbar.

  3. A side panel opens, neatly wrapping the full text of the comment alongside its timestamp and author.

By using the Comments view and Details panel, you can quickly verify historical operator actions and understand the complete context behind past manual interventions.
