System Configuration

As a system administrator, configuring your system is one of the first tasks you perform once the system is up and running. However, the default configuration allows you to start working with the system immediately. You do not have to make any changes for the purposes of this Getting Started.

The Automation Engine supplies several system and Client Variable (VARA) objects in Client 0. The definitions of these objects govern the behavior of the system. If the object definition should impact the entire system, then the object must remain in Client 0. Other objects can be transferred to other Clients because they contain Client-specific settings.

If a system or Client VARA object is not available in a Client other than Client 0, the settings of the object in Client 0 apply to the entire system. You can change most of theses settings; however, consider that some changes require you to restart the Automic Web Interface, the server or the Agent.

The UC_SYSTEM_SETTINGS variable comprises several predefined parameters which settings apply throughout the entire Automation Engine system. It can only be changed in Client 0.

The Automation Engine monitors all these parameters and informs you if a user attempts to store an invalid value. In this case, the variable definition does not change but the system reacts as follows:

You can also use user-defined Variable (VARA) objects. They are used as placeholders which can be used in executable objects.
