Introduction
Terma Analytics (JAWS) version 5.4 provides new automated maintenance for the Automic Automation Intelligence database and server log files. These new configurable features allow customers to manage data and log file retention policies for the platform server directly with the Automic Automation Intelligence Configuration Tool.
By configuring Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance to purge old data and logs, customers benefit from:
- Reduced data storage requirements
- Better system performance
- Compliance management
- Reduced downtime
Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance runs in the background while the Automic Automation Intelligence server is running. There is no longer a need to stop the server to perform data maintenance procedures. There is no significant impact to the operation of the server or end-user functionality while automated maintenance is performed.
Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance in version 5.4 is a complete replacement for the offline purge tools previously used to delete old data from the system. Once Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance is enabled and configured, customers should discontinue use of the legacy purge utilities.
Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance is disabled by default for upgrades from previous versions of Automic Automation Intelligence.
Overview
The Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance is run in two main processes. A process called the loader runs once per day at a configurable time and determines the items that are eligible for deletion. Then, the worker process runs at a low priority on an ongoing basis to remove the data marked for deletion in smaller increments. These main processes can then be further divided into sub-parts that relate to different types of objects to be removed. The main object types are:
- Job run
- Jobstream run
- Jobs that have been deleted from the scheduler(s)
- JAWS application log files
Once objects have been identified by the loader and marked for deletion, they will be filtered from the user interfaces. There may be a period of time where objects exist in the database because the worker is still processing flagged objects even though they are no longer available for view or access via any of the user interfaces.
New installations Automic Automation Intelligence will prompt for Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance configuration input at install time and pre-populate the Automic Automation Intelligence Configuration Tool Maintenance tab with entries from the install.
Notes:
-
All use of the old purge tools (purge_jaws stored procedure, purgeOldJobRuns, purgeDeletedJobs) should be suspended and/or removed.
-
Database maintenance to rebuild or recalculate statistics for all indices should be run on a regular basis. If Automic Automation Intelligence Automated Maintenance is being run to purge a large amount of history from the Automic Automation Intelligence database, we would recommend that database maintenance be run after the purge is complete to improve the performance of the database. Please check with your DBA on additional recommendations for frequency and detailed instructions for your database type.
