CA 7 Data Provider for AAI

To be able to monitor CA7 managed workloads, AAI requires that several files be created on z/OS and delivered to a specified directory location on the AAI server. Then, AAI can start processing and monitoring at regular intervals. You use the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI for this purpose.

The installation and implementation of the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI involves the following components:

CA7 Data Files

AAI requires the following types of data files:

  • CA7 Definition Data

(Job details, datasets and calendars defined in CA7)

Four files make up the CA7 Definition Data set. They provide all the details that AAI needs to create and maintain jobstreams.

Tip: By default, AAI is configured to re-process these files once per day. However, given that changes to Production CA7 definitions do not usually occur that often, it may be more efficient to perform this processing on an “On Demand” basis only.

  • CA7 Event Data

(Details of the execution of the CA7 managed workloads)

One file makes up the CA7 Event Data feed. It provides all the details of the ongoing CA7 activity around the submission and tracking of the CA7 managed workloads. It also enables AAI to provide near real-time status of the progress of AAI defined and monitored Jobstreams.

Usually this file is created, delivered and processed by AAI once every 30 seconds. However, the more often this file is created and processed, the more “real-time” the status of the CA7 managed workload would be in AAI, at the expense of some additional overhead.

CA 7 Data Provider for AAI

The CA 7 Data Provider for AAI operates as a continuously running data server. It creates and delivers the required AAI data files at regular intervals as specified through the configuration settings. The main process executes under OMVS, via BPXBATCH; it and spawns dynamically various child OMVS and TSO address spaces, as needed, to perform specific activity related to the creation and/or delivery of these required AAI data files.

One CA 7 Data Provider for AAI instance is required for each unique CA7 to AAI connection. However, a single installation of the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI can be used to run multiple instances within the same LPAR, each with their own set of execution datasets.

The CA 7 Data Provider for AAI provides a complete log of activity related to system start up, initialization, recovery processing and AAI data delivery processing.

ISPF Interface

An ISPF interface provides a menu / panel driven interface for configuring an instance of the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI. It also lets you perform various manual control functions that are described in the following topics.

Command Request API

A Command Request API provides equivalent control functions to enable management of an instance of the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI through automated operation systems.
