SAP Solution Manager

The SAP Solution Manager is a centralized SAP application that provides powerful monitoring and reporting functions. The Solution Manager is supplied with all SAP systems. You can connect it with your Automation Engine (AE) system to quickly read information, or manage AE processes directly from the Solution Manager. You need an SAP Agent that is exclusively used for this purpose and has the AWI URL defined in its INI file. In addition, you need a Connection object that includes the settings for the Solution Manager Scheduling Enabler (SMSE) interface.

This page includes the following:

Terminology

See below for a short collection of terms that are used in the SAP Solution Manager compared to how they are referred to in an AE system:

  • Application ID
    Folder
  • Time Window
    Period object
  • Isolation Group
    4-digit AE client number
  • (Job) Definition type
    Object type
  • (Job) Definition
    Object name

Configuring the Connection

To set up the connection:

  1. In the [ SAP_SMSE ] section of the INI file of the SAP Agent, define the AWI URL.
  2. In the Connection (CONN) of the SAP Agent that is exclusively used for this integration, click the R3 Connection page.
  3. Open the Interfaces section, and go to Scheduling Job with an External Scheduler (SMSE).
  4. Activate the SMSE Interface section
  5. Fill in the information for the AE client, user, department, and password
  6. Note: Alternatively, you can set the AE client in the SAP Solution Manager. Make sure that the user who is specified in the Connection object also exists in the client that you define.

  7. Fill in the RFC information for the Gateway Host and Gateway service. The RFC destination is automatically created when the SAP Agent starts. Therefore, you can set any program ID and RFC connection name of your choice.
  8. Restart the agent
  9. In the SAP Solution Manager Work Center, Job Management Administration section, select Manage External Job Scheduler Connections (EXT_SDL transaction). The RFC connection that you have defined in the Connection object should be listed and marked as the default connection.
  10. Click Connection Test to verify that you can successfully establish a connection to the AE/AWI.

Upon successful completion of your configuration, you can use various AE functions with the SAP Solution Manager. Through the SMSE interface, you can read, query, or retrieve information about Jobs from the AE. You can create, schedule, or cancel tasks, and so on. All these functions, except for reading clients refer to the AE client that is specified in the Connection object for the SMSE interface.
