User Groups (USRG)

The User Groups page of the Administration perspective lists all User Groups of a Client. User Groups let you collect users and assign them identical authorizations and privileges, helping to simplify administrative tasks. You can add as many User Groups as you need. Users can be assigned to as many User Groups as needed.

Object Definition

  • Object class: System object
  • Object type/Short name: USRG

Important! The Access to Administration Privilege is required to display the User Group members. See also AWI Access Control

Tip: You may need to work with many objects, lists and monitors simultaneously. To make your work easier, you can open them in different browser windows and arrange them side by side on your screen. For more information about this and other useful functions, see Opening and Arranging Multiple Views.

Defining User Group Objects

The steps for defining User Groups are the same as for any other object. A User Group definition is made up of the following pages:

To Define a User Group

  1. In the Administration perspective, go to User Management > User Groups.

  2. Right-click anywhere on the list and select Add User Group.

  3. On the Add User Group dialog enter the name of the group. Choose a descriptive name that helps you identify the purpose of this User Group later on. The name must be unique within the Client.

    Maximum length: 200 characters.

From now on, the new User Group is available both in the User Group list in the Administration perspective and in the Explorer (root folder) list in the Process Assembly perspective. Right-click the User Group and select Show in Folder to see its location in the Process Assembly perspective.

  4. The Assigned Users page is displayed; it contains the list of Users that are assigned to this group. You assign new Users to the group here too. Right-click anywhere on the list and select Assign Users.

  5. The Assign Users dialog is displayed. It contains all the users that are defined in the Client.

    • In large systems, this list can be very long. Use the Filter function to restrict its content. You can filter for Active/Inactive and for Locked/Not locked users.

    • You can also search for specific user(s). Start typing the name of the users. The list is filtered accordingly as you type.

Select the users that you want to assign to this group and click the Assign Users button.

  6. Grant this User Group the authorizations and privileges that its members should have. For more information see:

  7. Save your changes.

Searching for User Groups

In large systems, this list can be very long. Use the box in the toolbar to search for specific User Group(s). Start typing their name or title, the list is filtered accordingly as you type.

Duplicating User Groups

Renaming User Groups

When you rename a User Group you can enter a title, which will be displayed in the Title column in the list. Use the title to further define the purpose of the User Group. This will help you in the future if you have many User groups and you need to identify them quickly in the list.
