Global Search

The global search box on the top right corner of your screen lets you search for any object or task in the Client that you are logged into. This search box is also the entry point to perform advanced object searches.

The results of the search depend on your object authorizations. Consider the following:

  • To be able to find an object, you must have at least read rights to the folder where it is stored, otherwise, the search does not display it.

  • If you have read rights to a folder, the results of the search display all the objects contained in it, even in the case the authorizations specified for those objects restrict their access.

  • The authorization attributes defined at object level are evaluated as soon as you try to interact with the object. This is why the list of search results displays objects for which you do not have read rights. You can see them on the list, but you cannot open or edit them.

To Start an Advanced Search

Place your cursor in the empty Search field to open a dropdown list with the following links:

  • Search for objects

    Click this link to open the advanced object search view.

  • Search for tasks

    Click this link to open the list of unfiltered tasks in the Process Monitoring perspective

To Search for Objects, Tasks

  1. To start the search do one of the following:

    • Enter the name or part of the name of the object.

      Minimum length: 2 characters

      Allowed wildcard characters: * and ?

      By default, the global search function uses implicit wildcards at the beginning and at the end of the string you enter here.

      Example:

      Entering DB_BACKUP triggers the search for *DB_BACKUP*. The following results are also suggested in the dropdown list:

      MSSQL_DB_BACKUP

      DB_BACKUP_MSSQL

      MSSQL_DB_BACKUP_JAN

    • To search for a task, enter its complete RunID. Entering only a part of it does not start the search.

  2. A dropdown list opens up displaying a selection of the results. It is divided in two sections. The upper half provides links to the objects and folders found. The lower half, to the tasks.

    A link at the end of each section opens the complete list of objects/tasks that match your search term.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • For both objects and tasks

      Select the object and right-click to open a context menu with the processing options available to you according to your rights and privileges.

    • For objects

      • Click an object to open it in the Process Assembly perspective.

      • Click the View x objects at the bottom of the Objects section to go to the list of results in the Advanced Search view. For more information, see Advanced Search.

    • For tasks

        Click a task to open the complete list of its Executions in the Process Monitoring perspective.

        Click the View matching tasks link at the bottom of the Tasks section to open a filtered list of Tasks in the Process Monitoring perspective. The Task Name is used as filter criterion for the list.

Note:

(Objects) When you search for an object, the global search also finds its links. For example, JOBS_JOB_A is stored in Explorer>JOBS>Source and a link to it is stored in Explorer>JOBS>Links. The result of a global search yields two entries, one for the original and one for the link.
