Installation Requirements

This section contains all requirements that must be fulfilled before installing Univiewer Console and Univiewer Management Server.

For more information on operating systems and compatibility with other Dollar Universe products, refer to the compatibility matrix available at https://docs.automic.com > Dollar Universe > Dollar Universe - Compatibility Matrix.

To install Dollar Universe on Windows, the WoW64 sub-system (Windows-on-Windows 64-bit) must be activated. This is usually the case, but it may have been disabled and the system is no longer compatible with 32 bit applications including Dollar Universe installation utility: InstallShield.

Java

Type this command in the command window to find out what the latest version of java is:

java –version

The path to the Java bin directory (JAVA_HOME) must be defined in the UVMS logical environment and must be accessible for the UVC.

Warning: Refer to the compatibility matrix for compatibility with Java® and OpenJDK.

External Database

If UVMS is installed on an external database (by default on an internal database Derby):

UVMS Servers installed on Windows machines support Oracle or MS SQL Server databases.

UVMS Servers installed on Linux machines only support Oracle databases.

Supporter Web Servers and Servlet Engines

UVC can be launched using Java Web Start technology from a Web browser. The Web Start technology implies the presence of a Web Server on Linux or Windows platforms (for example Apache).

Refer to section: Univiewer Console Web Start Installation, Configuration and Upgrade.

Univiewer Web Console can be deployed on a servlet engine (for example Tomcat).

Refer to section: Univiewer Web Console Installation, Configuration and Upgrade.

Overall Disk Space and Memory Requirements

On Linux: Compressed size of kit / Minimum Memory

On Windows: Compressed size of kit / Minimum Memory

Memory recommendations indicate what we consider the minimum requirements for the product to function correctly with low load levels. Required memory specifications can vary, depending on a number of factors: Number of nodes and accessible areas, number of connected consoles, number of objects, number of supervised job executions...

File Descriptors

Please ensure that the system parameters entered in the UVMS configuration can be applied to the user launching the UNIX session.

In particular, the UXMAXFD value was increased with UVMS versions.

This node setting is defined in UVC in Administration mode > Nodes > Nodes. Select the Management Server node and open the Node settings, category Advanced Settings.

The user who starts UVMS must have the necessary resources at their disposal. This value can be verified using the UNIX command: ulimit -n.

Certificate Center

The Univiewer product signs its jars on the Thawte® Certificate Center website http://thawte.com, which leads to internet requests to this site.

As of version 6.10.41, documentation new updates are posted on the Broadcom Techdocs Portal.
