Creating Business Areas and Assigning Jobstreams

how to create business areas, how to assign jobstreams to business areas

Business areas are organizational categories that reflect the structure of your business. Jobstreams are assigned to business areas. Business areas are assigned to users. This means that in addition to organizing processes logically as needed in your business, business areas give you easy access to the data you need for your daily work. Business areas also facilitate many other essential functions related to jobstreams, such as filtering, managing alerts, defining processing cycles and many more.

As a business area coordinator, first you define business areas and then, you assign jobstreams to those business areas. A Jobstream can be assigned to more than one business area.

Business areas are defined in a tree structure of parent and children business areas that all expand from the root business area, All Jobstreams. In a fresh installation of AAI, the All Jobstreams business area already defined. You cannot rename or delete the All Jobstreams business area, you can only define child business areas under it. All business areas that you add are subordinate to All Jobstreams or one of its child business areas.

A business area definition is broken up into two types of information that you provide:

  • Definitional information, which includes:

    • The name and parent of the business area.

      • These values appear on the pages and views in AAI and its database.

      • Defining the direct parent establishes the business areas location in the overall business area tree

    • An optional description that is stored only with the definition for information to the jobstream administrators .

  • Default alert notification email addresses

These are used as backup addresses to send email notifications for alerts triggered by runs of the jobstreams in the business area, if no email addresses are defined with the jobstream alerts. For information, see Defining Alerts for a Jobstream.

    Note:

If no email addresses are included in the jobstream alert settings, and there are no email addresses

To Add a Business Area

create business areas
  1. Select Settings > Business Areas from the left pane to display the available business areas on the right pane.

  2. Click the + Add Business Area button to open the Add Business Area dialog.

  3. In the Info tab, do the following:

    1. Enter the Name of the business area. It is very important that the business area names are easily recognizable and that they describe the type of business that they represent. For more information, see Naming Conventions.

    2. In Description add any information about this business area that you deem relevant for other users.

    3. If your environment already contains business areas and you want to create a new one under an existing one, select it from the Direct Parent list. If you want to create a business area at root level, leave this field empty.

  4. In the Alerts tab you specify the emails of the users that should be notified when alerts are triggered from runs in a jobstream that is in the business area. You can enter multiple addresses separated by a comma. The entered addresses are displayed in the Email Alert Recipients list.

AAI will send emails to the addresses defined here for all the jobstreams that are assigned to this business area.

If you do not specify any email address here, the business area inherits the addresses available in its parent business area, which, in turn, inherits from its parent, and so forth.

    Important !

It is also possible to assign email addresses to jobstreams. If a jobstream has email addresses assigned, then these addresses override the business area ones. This means that all alerts related to the jobstream are sent to the addresses defined in the jobstream and NOT to the addresses defined in the corresponding business area.

  5. Click Save.
