Trending Jobs Data Table Report

The purpose of the Trending Jobs Data Table report is to surface jobs with execution runtimes that are trending to increased durations, which generally indicates that design or scheduling modifications might be necessary.

This screenshot is an example of a Trending Job Data Table report. Both the jobs with the higher value in Goodness of Fit and the outliers are candidates for a design improvement.

Configuring the Report

This report evaluates all the executions in AAI historical database. Use the trending criteria to filter the job executions to pull only jobs that you would want to analyze further.

Choose the trending period (30 or 90 days by default, although your administrator can configure the options differently) and specify the minimum number of runs, minimum goodness of fit for the trends, minimum trend percentage and time per week.

Hints about How to Use the Table Identify Problematic Jobs

Typically, you work with this report in iterations to identify your most urgent candidates for design evaluation. Start with values such as 20 minimum runs, 75 for goodness of fit, a 5% minimum trend per week, and 15 seconds minimum trend time per week. If you get a very large number of results, sort on goodness of fit or the trend columns to determine where the highest values are and then edit the report criteria to narrow the results until you have a list you can work with.

Note that both the jobs with higher Goodness of Fit and the outliers are candidates for design improvements. When evaluating the jobs, you might sometimes find that the problem lies not in the design but in an imbalance in workload scheduling, which you can adjust.

Also note that you can also use this table to identify downward trends in job execution times. For example, after making modifications to jobs, use this table to check whether the execution time starts to trend downward.

Working with the Report

Click the icon on the top right corner of the panel to open a menu with the configuration options:

  • Edit

Opens the configuration dialog, where you can edit the name, published status and filter criteria used in the report.

In the Schedule Report to Run options, you can specify the date and times for the runs and the repeat options. In the Distribution options, specify where the report should be sent and in what format.

All Insight reports that allow scheduling provide the same scheduling options. In the following example, you see those options in the Schedule Trending Jobs Data Table window:
