Creating Business Areas and Assigning Jobstreams

Business Areas (BAs) are organizational categories that reflect the structure of your business. Jobstreams are assigned to BAs. BAs are assigned to users. This means that in addition to organizing processes logically as needed in your business, BAs give you easy access to the data you need for your daily work. BAs also facilitate many other essential functions related to jobstreams, such as filtering, managing alerts, defining processing cycles and many more.

As a BA coordinator, first you define BAs and then, you assign jobstreams to those BAs. A Jobstream can be assigned to more than one BA. In a fresh installation, AAI has a predefined BA called All Jobstreams.

You add business areas in the web interface. Although once added business areas are visible in both the thick client and the web interface, you can only create, edit and delete business areas from the web interface.

To Add a Business Area

  1. Select Business Areas from the left pane to display the available BA on the right pane.

  2. Click the + business area button to open the Add business area dialog.

  3. In the Info tab, do the following:

    1. Enter the Name of the business area. It is very important that the BA names are easily recognizable and that they describe the type of business that they represent. For more information, see Naming Conventions.

    2. In Description add any information about this BA that you deem relevant for other users.

    3. If your environment already contains BAs and you want to create a new one under an existing one, select it from the Direct Parent list. If you want to create a BA at root level, leave this field empty.

  4. In the Alerts tab you specify the emails of the users that should be notified when alerts are triggered. You can enter multiple addresses separated by a comma. The entered addresses are displayed in the Email Alert Recipients list.

AAI will send emails to the addresses defined here for all the jobstreams that are assigned to this BA.

If you do not specify any email address here, the BA inherits the addresses available in its parent BA, which, in turn, inherits from its parent, and so forth.

    Important !

It is also possible to assign email addresses to jobstreams. If a jobstream has email addresses assigned, then these addresses override the BA ones. This means that all alerts related to the jobstream are sent to the addresses defined in the jobstream and NOT to the addresses defined in the corresponding BA.

  5. Click Save.
