start defining a jobstream,define jobstream,select target job

When you add a jobstream manually, the first thing you do is to define its target job. This is why the Add New Jobstream dialog opens to the Select Target Job section. Once you have selected one, the Definition tab on the Add New Jobstream dialog opens.

The steps to add and edit a jobstream are almost identical. When editing, you cannot modify the target job, though. Also, the Edit Jobstream dialog has an additional SLA tab. The Definition tab is available for both.

Part of the information here is read-only key data about the jobstream (scheduler, parentage, and basic statistics) that AAI retrieves when building the upstream dependencies of the target job. The Definition tab lets you configure/edit the following jobstream attributes:

  • Name

By default, AAI uses the target job name as jobstream name. When you change it, take the following into account:

    • The name must be unique within your AAI system.

    • Maximum name length: 255 characters

    Tip:

Give jobstreams meaningful names that users can easily recognize. An option could be to give them the same name as their target jobs, provided the target job names understandably describe the process they execute. Ideally, jobstream names should describe the processes that operators will analyze and monitoring through the jobstream, for example End of Day Processing.

  • Description

If you assign the jobstream a name that is different from its target job, add a jobstream description that provides users with the information they need to understand its purpose.

  • Make this jobstream available for monitoring and alerts

When you define the properties of a jobstream you also configure the alerts that you want AAI to send as soon as it detects that the timely completion of the jobstream is jeopardized. All alerts are displayed in the Monitoring console but you can also add SNMP traps (provided you have the required infrastructure) and emails. The alerts include detailed information about the jobstream run. Not all alerts indicate a negative impact in the jobstream completion; you can also set alerts to track the execution progress, the jobstream completion, and so on.

  • Make this jobstream available for forecasting

AAI sends an alert with information about the jobstream when the forecasted time passes. If the jobstream is selected to be forecasted this alert will be fired when the forecasted start time occurs and the jobstream does not start.

  • Is critical jobstream

If you select this option, the following happens:

    • This jobstream is considered critical to a business area, allowing users to filter by critical jobstream in multiple AAI views.

    • AAI can limit the calculation of End of Business Area Cycle to only the jobstreams that are considered critical.

Once you have made your changes, continue configuring/editing the jobstream in the following tabs:
