Global Search

The global search box on the right corner of the menu bar at the top of your screen allows you to search for virtually any item in the Client that you are logged into. Type your search string; a dropdown list displays a selection of the results and information on the total number of items found. The list provides quick links to the complete list of results. It also gives you access to all functions available for the found items that are displayed in the dropdown list. The global search box is the entry point for the Advanced Search.

The results of the search depend on your object /folder authorizations.

To find an object, you must have at least read rights to the folder where it is stored. Otherwise, the search does not display it. If you have read rights to a folder, the results of the search display all the objects contained in it, even in the case the authorizations specified for those objects restrict their access. The authorization attributes defined at object level are evaluated as soon as you try to interact with the object. This is why the list of search results displays objects for which you do not have read rights. You can see them on the list, but you cannot open or edit them.

To Perform a Global Search

  1. To start the search do one of the following:

    • To search for an entity or an object, enter its name (or part of it).

      Minimum length: 2 characters

Allowed wildcard characters: * and ?

By default, the global search function uses implicit wildcards at the beginning and at the end of the string you enter here.

      Example:

Entering DB_BACKUP triggers the search for *DB_BACKUP*. The following results are also suggested in the dropdown list:

      MSSQL_DB_BACKUP

      DB_BACKUP_MSSQL

      MSSQL_DB_BACKUP_JAN

    • To search for a task, enter its complete RunID. Entering only a part of it does not start the search.

  2. A dropdown list opens up displaying a selection of the results.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • For both objects, entities and tasks

Right-click to open a context menu with the processing options available to you according to your rights and privileges.

    • For entities

To open the list of results, click the X Results Total link on the header of the Release Automation section.

To show archived entities in the result list, select the Showing Archived Items checkbox in the user settings.

    • For objects

      • Click an object to open it in the Process Assembly
      • Click the X Results Total link on the header of the Objects section to go to the list of results.

This list shows up to 5000 objects. Your system administrator can change the maximum number of results to be displayed in GENERIC_SEARCH_LIMIT in the UC_SYSTEM_SETTINGS - Systemwide Settings variable.

    • For tasks

Click a task to open the complete list of its Executions in the Process Monitoring perspective.

To open a filtered list of Tasks in the Process Monitoring perspective using the Task Name as filter criterion, click the Show All Results link on the header of the Tasks section.

You can rearrange the columns and rows of lists to best fit your needs. From list entities and objects you can start an advanced object search.

Note: When you search for an object or an entity, the global search also finds its links. For example, JOBS_JOB_A is stored in Explorer>JOBS>Source and a link to it is stored in Explorer>JOBS>Links. The result of a global search yields two entries, one for the original and one for the link.
