CDA Upgrade FAQ
Q: Can I keep my existing agents when upgrading?
A: It depends on the version from which you are upgrading. When upgrading from version 5, all agents must be upgraded too. If you want to upgrade from version 11.2 it is possible to keep the agents as they are. However, we strongly recommend upgrading agents to benefit from the Agent upgrade capability immediately. If you do not upgrade your agents, you will have the server side on v12 but your agents on v11.2. You will still have to manually fix all your agents as we add new features.
Q: Will my existing workflows remain working after upgrading?
A: Yes, providing you do not use Web Service job types, modify Windows, and UNIX job headers for each client and recreate and modify snapshot workflows where applicable.
Q: Will my actions be upgraded to the latest version automatically?
A: No. Your existing actions will remain as they are and can be used (executed) in parallel to the new actions.
Tip: Build new workflows with the latest version of actions available and re-implement any changes made to existing workflows using new actions.
Q: Is it true that I will no longer need the Java User Interface?
A: Yes, for day-to-day operations all functionality is covered in the Automic Web Interface. However, it will be useful to have the Java User Interface available during the upgrade project.
Q: Will I be able to upgrade CDA on my own or do I need CA Automic Professional Services?
A: This depends on several factors such as minor/major upgrade, deployment architecture, objects used, customization, and so on. Upgrading a CDA instance can be challenging and is not typically something you do "over the weekend”. Unlike CA Automic Support, CA Automic Professional Services can assist you with the proper planning and risk assessment to ensure your upgrade is successful with minimum downtime to your business.
Q: What types of upgrades can be performed?
A: There are three types of upgrades: In Place Upgrade, Parallel Upgrade, Parallel Upgrade (Multi Instance). For more information, see Types of CDA Upgrades.
