Defining Objects Manually
In Automic Automation, you can define objects in two ways:
-
Manually
As a developer or object designer, you can add an object and manually configure its attributes across various definition pages. This gives you granular control over every parameter, from runtime behavior to security permissions.
-
Automation Assistant (AI-Driven)
You can leverage the power of Generative AI to accelerate your design process. The Automation Assistant helps you create folders and objects automatically and can even assist in creating and configuring complex Workflows based on your requirements. For more information, see AI-Augmented Workflow Creation with the Automation Assistant.
Objects are the building blocks of your automation strategy. By defining objects, you create reusable components that represent your business processes and IT infrastructure. Properly configured objects ensure that your automation is reliable, scalable, and easy to maintain.
Important! Visit Broadcom Software Academy for a course related to this topic. For more information, see the Education section later in this page.
Tip: You may need to work with many objects, lists and monitors simultaneously. To make your work easier, you can open them in different browser windows and arrange them side by side on your screen. For more information about this and other useful functions, see Opening and Arranging Multiple Views.
Defining Objects: Pages Common to All Object Types
Every object in shares a set of standard definition pages.
-
General, see Defining the General Page
The General page contains the following sub-pages:
-
Sync (executable objects only), see Defining the Sync Page
-
Runtime (executable objects only), see Defining the Runtime Page
-
Object Authorizations, see Defining the Authorizations Page
-
-
Version Management, see Defining the Version Management Page
-
Documentation, see Defining the Documentation Page
Defining Objects: Object-Specific Pages
Depending on the type of object you are creating, specialized pages will be available to handle unique logic and parameters.
These topics describe object-specific pages:
-
Assigning Clients to Agents (HSTA)
-
Clients (CLNT)
-
User-Defined VARA Objects (VARA)
Defining Objects: Other Common Pages
The following pages are common to certain object types:
-
Process pages
Some executable objects have process pages where developers and object designers can add functional logic to them using the Automation Engine scripting language. There are various process pages: Pre-Proces, Process, Post-Process and Child Post Process. See Defining the Process Pages in Jobs.
-
Attributes page
All executable object have an Attributes page where developers and object designers define settings that are essential for their execution. See Defining the Attributes Page.
-
Output sub-pages
Jobs have two Output sub-pages, External Output Files (see Registering External Output Files) and Output-Scan (see Scanning the Output Files). File Transfers have Output-Scan pages only.
-
Variables page
All executable objects have a Variables page where developers and object designers can define variables that are specific to the object that they are defining. See Defining the Variables Page.
-
PromptSets page
All executable objects have a PromptSets page where developers and object designers can configure prompts that can be populated with data either manually when the object executes or dynamically though variables. See Defining the Prompt Sets Page.
-
Rollback page
All executable objects have a Rollback page that lets developers and object designers configure how to restore tasks (that is, executed objects) to an earlier stage in the execution process. See Defining the Rollback Page.
