Logging In and Out

The login information you require depends on the type of login setup at your company. If your company uses basic authentication, you must enter the credentials that your administrator has given you. If your company uses Single Sign-On (SSO), the login is either fully or partially automatic. This topic describes the available login options and the login dialog, including the Version Information section.

Notes:

  • Your login entries (except the password) are stored in a browser cookie, so you do not have to enter your log in details in your next login. However, if your login details change or your browser cache is emptied, you must re-enter all values.

  • In some setups, after your login you will bypass the login page unless your cache has been emptied or you are not logging in from your usual secured network.

This page includes the following:

Standard Login

If you have a default setup, this is what you see on the login page:

  • Language

    English (default), Deutsch, Français

  • Connection

    This is the Automation Engine backend to which you connect with this login. If our company has more than one Automation Engine backend and if your administration has configured it so, you can select the backend here. Otherwise, this field displays the default backend and it is grayed out.

  • Login Type

    This option is available only if SSO is enabled at your company. Depending on whether, in addition to enabling SSO, your system administrator has also enforced it, this is what happens:

    SSO is enabled but not enforced

    The Login Type dropdown list contains two options:

    • Automation Engine, which lets you log in with basic authentication (your credentials)

    • Either SAML or Kerberos, depending on the SSO protocol used at your company

    SSO is enabled and enforced

    Basic authentication is not allowed and, therefore, you can only log in using SAML or Kerberos.

  • Client

    Number of the Client that you want to log into

  • Name

    Your user name

  • Department (optional)

  • Password

    Your system administrator defines the rules that your password must comply with, its validity period and the maximum number of allowed failed attempts.

  • Connection Color (optional)

    Color of the process bar at the top of the AWI browser window. If you open more than one session, having different session colors helps you see which session you are in.

    Note: You can always change the session color afterward. For more information, see Selecting the Connection Color.

  • Enable Autologin

    This option is available only if your company uses SSO. Use it to choose whether your login to the Automic Web Interface is fully or partially automated.

    • For a fully automated login, select the Enable Autologin checkbox. You will no longer need to enter your login details in the future. Before selecting this option, make sure to choose your session settings (Language, Connection, Client, Session Color), as these cannot be changed the next time you log in.

    • For a partially automated login, leave the Enable Autologin checkbox unselected. You can then adjust your session settings (Language, Connection, Client) at each login without needing to re-enter your username or password.

    Note: To log in with different credentials or modify your session settings after enabling Autologin, clear your browser cache and restart the AWI. The full login page will appear again.

Single Sign-On (SSO)

If SSO is enabled at your organization, you do not need to enter your credentials every time you want to log in to AWI. Automic Automation supports Kerberos and SAML. Administrators enable SSO in the configuration.properties - Configuring Your Local Setup of your Automic Web Interface instance by setting the sso.enabled property to true.

Logging in for the First Time

If you connect for the first time and nothing is configured yet, you see the default Dashboard (HOME) page. By default, it contains four videos and different links to the product documentation which walk you through the user interface, give you navigation hints, and introduce some of the main areas of the Automic Web Interface.

This page contains elements specific to you or your team. If you have the necessary rights, you can customize it with other widgets.

Logging Out

Expand the arrow that is next to your user name and session information on the menu bar and select Logout.

If you log out (or if you close the browser window) while tasks are still executing and in the activation stage, those tasks will abort. This applies to tasks that were started by the user that is currently logged in. Tasks that you have started and that are already in another stage (generation, processing or completion) continue executing. A confirmation dialog prompts you to confirm that you want to log out.
