The Job Chain editor is quite similar to the Business View editor (Refer to section: Business View Details). The graphical representations are described in this section.
You can insert comments in the graph. Enter the text and move it to its destination Area. Click the x to close and delete it.
Edit and Display
The clipboard actions (Copy, Cut, Paste and Delete) may be used in New or Update modes, they are not available in Monitoring mode.
All other options are available in all modes.
Refer to section Business View Details - Edit and Display
Design
You can insert existing objects, but you cannot create new objects. Refer to section: Add Existing Objects
Refer to section Business View Details - Design
In creation mode, this function displays a window for selecting the Nodes to be monitored.
The Nodes displayed in this list are extracted from UVMS.
Check the boxes corresponding to the required Nodes, then click OK to confirm. The “Job Chain” creation window in the background then becomes accessible.
Execution Management Units
When a Job Chain is created or opened, after confirming the selected Nodes list, a check of MU, MU types and MU dependency definitions is performed:
The local lists of MUs, MU types and MU dependencies are extracted from each selected Node; all local lists are concatenated by type and compared to the MU, MU Type and MU dependencies list on the Job Chain reference Node.
If two MUs share the same name but reside on different Nodes (either within the concatenated list or between the concatenated list and the list extracted from the Job Chain reference Node), then the Job Chain cannot be opened and the following error message will be generated "MU definitions are not coherent for the selected Nodes. Please correct the MU definitions before opening the Job Chain".
If MU, MU types or MU dependencies in the concatenated list are found missing from the Job Chain reference Node, then the following offer is made to the user:
"MU/MU Type/MU Dependency definitions are incomplete on the Job Chain reference Node. Do you want to create the missing MU/MU Type/MU Dependency definitions on the Job Chain reference node?"
If you click YES, the missing MUs are created, if you click NO, you will exit the Job Chain.
In the Job Chain editor, in Update mode, existing objects (Resources and Tasks) can be selected from the corresponding list of local objects (located in the bottom of the document) to be inserted into the Job Chain. If an object is not stored in the monitored Nodes, it is not visible in the list.
Click on the tab to display the list.
Select the object(s) from the list using the cursor and the Shift or Ctrl keys.
Hold the left-hand mouse button pressed down, drag the selected object(s) into the Job Chain editor and release the mouse button.
Then select the objects one by one or use the Align buttons to arrange them in a more readable way.
This section describes the general principles governing the calculation of a Job Chain’s overall status.
In the Job Chain editor, in Update mode, at the bottom of the document, the View Status Definition tab displays the list of existing criteria. The default setting present means that the whole Job Chain will be shown as "Aborted" if any component Uproc fails.
Add / Update Job Chain Criterion
This feature can add a criterion to a Job Chain or alter an existing criterion to set the Job Chain’s overall status.
Jobs used for the calculation of the Job Chain’s overall status must meet the following requirements:
Click Add or Update to display the “Criteria definition” window.
Enter the information described below and click OK to confirm the criterion or Cancel to close the window.
Node
Enter the target Node name or select it from the list.
Task
Enter the name of the target Task or select it in the list.
Task MU
Enter the name of the target Task’s Management Unit or select it in the list.
Session
Enter the name of the Session or select it from the list. If the Session code is empty (no wildcard *) only executions concerning lone Uprocs will be examined.
Uproc
Enter the name of the target Uproc (local or remote) or select it from the list. If a Session has been selected:
MU
Enter the target Management Unit code or select it from the list. The MUs in the list are extracted from the local Node table and their Node of residence is one of the Nodes included in the View.
Status
Select a status from the list.
Label
Enter the label (to be associated with the status) which will be displayed in the Job Chains list.
Color
Click Change to select the color to be associated with the status in the Job Chains list.
Remove Job Chain Criterion
To remove a criterion from the list:
Move Up/Move Down List
The list of criteria is examined from top to bottom. The first criterion satisfied determines the overall status of the Job Chain.
To move a criterion up the list:
To move a criterion down the list:
Define Time Range
This screen defines the time range of the Jobs used to calculate the overall status of the Job Chain.
The observation window is defined dynamically around the current time.
Shift (-)
Enter the lower limit of the status observation window in days / hours and minutes.
Shift (+)
Enter the upper limit of the status observation window in days / hours and minutes.
Click OK to confirm or Cancel to close the window without saving changes.
