Configuring the JAWS Domain

domains, jaws, configuring jaws domains

Domains control the user login, authentication method and access privileges to AAI's functions. JAWS is the AAI's native domain. After a fresh AAI installation, it is available by default and you can neither edit nor delete it. You cannot crate a new JAWS domain either. As an AAI administrator, you edit and manage the JAWS domain to determine the user access to functions based on it.

The JAWS domain supports two user roles:

  • Admin

These users have unrestricted access to the entire user interface. They can add, edit and delete objects.

  • (Application) User

These users have read-only access to certain areas of the user interface AAI. The areas that pertain to administrative tasks are completely hidden from them.

This type of user can only monitor jobstreams and create reports.

When you add users and assign them the JAWS domain, you must identify them as either Admin or User.

Note:

JAWS has a predefined, default administration user that has full access to features, functions and user interface areas. This user is available when you first install AAI, and it is meant to be used only to setup AAI and make it functional, not as a regular AAI user with the admin role and ongoing administration responsibilities. Its credentials are:

  • User name: admin
  • Password: password

The default password is not a secure and strong password and will allow anyone to easily guess and access all parts of AAI without restriction. Therefore, once AAI is set up, we recommend that you either delete this user or that you modify its password. After which, you can defined other admin users with appropriately strong passwords. For information, see Changing the Default Admin Password.
