A widget is a window to a data insight, which is the pre-defined source for the contents of the widget. By adding different widgets to your Dashboard and organizing them on dashboard tab pages, you can get the kind of overview of your workload and execution landscape that really supports exactly what you need to successfully manage your own tasks. This topic explains how to add a data insight as a widget to your dashboard

You can add a widget to your Dashboard based on any data insight that you have access to.

Two Methods for Adding a Widget

There are two ways that you can add a widget to your dashboard:

  • By starting at either the Data Insights list or while viewing a data insight, and selecting the Add to Dashboard action from the Actions menu. For information, see Adding a Data Insight to Your Dashboard.

  • By starting on a dashboard tab and adding a widget to it. Steps for this follow.

To Add a Widget to a Dashboard

You can add a widget to any of your Dashboard tab pages based on any data insight that you can view or edit. Start on the tab page that you want to add a widget to and continue with the following steps:

  1. Click the +New Widget button in the upper right of the tab page. Alternatively, if you have an empty tab page, you can click the + Add Widget link in the middle of the tab page.

  2. Depending on which kind of data insight that you want as the source for the new widget, do the following:

    • To select an existing data insight to use as the source of the widget, select the following:

      1. Filter by insight type: Select a data insight type, or select All. If you choose a type, the select in the next field is filtered to show only data insights of that type, facilitating finding the data insight that you want.

      2. Data Insight Name: Select the data insight that you want as the source for this widget. The selection list contains only data insights of the type you selected in the previous field and that you have access to.

    • To create a new data insight for the widget, do the following:

      1. Click New Data Insight

      2. A blank New Data Insight dialog opens. Define the data insight settings and then click Save to return to adding the widget. For information, see Adding, Editing, Copying, and Deleting Data Insights.

  3. Under Initial Size (On the Dashboard) select how wide you want the widget to be when it is initially placed on the dashboard tab page.

Choose 1 x 1 for a third of the width of the tab page, 1 x 2 for two thirds of the tab page, and 1 x 3 for the full width of the tab page.

The initial height is always standard.

You can resize the widget height and width at any time and as often as you want after it is on your dashboard.

  4. Click Add.

The widget is added to your dashboard tab page in the first open space that it fits in (left to right, and top to bottom). Any other widgets are rearranged as needed. At any time, you can re-size and move any of the widgets on the dashboard tab page as you want. For information, see Organizing and Managing Your Dashboard (Web UI).
