A widget is a window to a data insight, which is the pre-defined source for the contents of the widget. By adding different widgets to your Dashboard and organizing them on dashboard tab pages, you can get the kind of overview of your workload and execution landscape that truly supports what you need to successfully manage your own tasks. This topic explains how to add a widget that is based on a data insight to your dashboard.

You can add any data insight that you have access to as a widget to your Dashboard.

Two Methods for Adding a Widget

There are two ways that you can add a widget to your dashboard:

Add data insight to dashboard, save to dashboard

To Add a Data Insight as Widget to a Dashboard

While working with your data insights, you can add a new widget to your Dashboard based on any of the data insights that you can view or edit. To do that, use the following steps:

  1. Open the Actions menu for the data insight from one of two places:

    • On the Data Insights list, click the Actions button (the vertical ellipses) in the Actions column.

(If this column is hidden, click the Columns button to the right in the menu bar above the list, and then select the column name to show it.)

    • On an open data insight page, click the Actions button (the vertical ellipses) at the far right on the toolbar.

  2. Select Save to Dashboard.

  3. Depending on whether you want to add the data insight widget on an existing or define a new data insight for it, do the following:

    • To add the widget to an existing dashboard tab page, select its name from Dashboard Tab Name.

    • To add the widget to a new dashboard tab page, do the following:

      1. Click Create a Tab.

      2. In Dashboard Tab Name, type the name for the new tab page.

      3. Click Save.

  4. Under Initial Size (On the Dashboard) select how wide you want the widget to be when it is initially placed on the dashboard tab page.

Choose 1 x 1 for a third of the width of the tab page, 1 x 2 for two thirds of the tab page, and 1 x 3 for the full width of the tab page.

The initial height is always standard.

You can resize the widget height and width at any time and as often as you want after it is on your dashboard.

  5. Click Add.

The widget is created and added to the dashboard tab page that you specified. The widget lands in the first open space that it fits in (left to right, and top to bottom). Any other widgets are rearranged as needed. At any time, you can resize and move any of the widgets on the dashboard tab page as you want.
