CA 7 Data Provider for AAI Run Time Options

This topic describes how to configure the run time options for your CA 7 Data Provider for AAI instance.

Screesnhot of the ISPF menu where you configure the runtime settings

Server Datasets Section

Execution HLQ

The high-level qualifier for the set of execution datasets used by this specific instance of the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI.

SFTP Data Path

The zFS/HFS directory location in OMVS that will be used to temporarily store the generated CA7 data files when using the SFTP data delivery mechanism.

The required directory structure must be in place before starting the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI. For more information, see Preparing for the Installation.

Make sure that the space available to the zFS/HFS location is sufficient to hold the larger of the LJOB or LDSN reports generated through CCITERM.

CA7 Event Data Generation Section

Cycle Frequency

Amount of time in seconds between cycles of Event Data delivery.

  • Minimum: 15 seconds

  • Maximum: 600 seconds

  • Default: 30 seconds

To obtain the remaining sleep time for the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI between cycles, the time taken to create the Event Data report and deliver it to the AAI system server location is subtracted from the overall time specified here. This ensures that the Event Data process occurs at almost exactly the specified time interval every time.

Decreasing the Cycle Frequency value will make the status of Jobs and Jobstreams in the AAI system closer to real-time status, at the expense of small increase in the overhead in theCA 7 Data Provider for AAI.

Recommendation: Set the Cycle Frequency in line with how often the AAI system will look for new Event Data being delivered. It is of no benefit to deliver Event Data every 30 seconds if the AAI system is only looking for new Event Data once every 60 seconds.

The AAI system frequency of checking for new Event Data can be set in the AAI Configuration Tool on the Intervals tab, in the Latest Events (Jammer) field. The default value for this field in AAI is 20 seconds.

Span Period

Period of time in minutes of the CA7 LOG data that will be processed in each cycle of Event Data generation. It starts at the current time minus the Span Period value and ending at the last CA7 LOG record available at the time of the Event Data generation.

  • Minimum: 2 minutes

  • Maximum: 60 minutes

  • Default: 5 minutes

The Span Period value allows for an overlap of Event Data delivery to ensure that any delays in delivering the Event Data report, or in AAI processing that data, will not lead to missing Event information in AAI. With a Cycle Frequency of 30 seconds and a Span Period of 5 minutes, approximately 4.5 minutes of repeat Event Data will be sent to the AAI system in each cycle.

Recommendation: Set these values to balance the risk of missing Event Data information against the overhead of generating the data and sending it, with larger span periods increasing the volume of the data generated and sent.

CA7 Definition Data Delivery

On Demand Delivery Only

WhetherCA7 Definition Data will be generated and delivered via the ADDD process automatically or only when specifically initiated via a Command Request.

If set to N, all four CA7 Definition Data files will be generated and delivered at the times defined in the Automatic Delivery Run Times. This is done by the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI initiating the Asynchronous Definition Data Delivery process as a child task.

If set to Y, the CA7 Definition Data will be delivered in one of this cases:

  • A Command Request is sent to the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI to initiate the ADDD process

  • By executing the Batch Starter for ADDD, via CAI7JCL member AI7XYYYX

You can issue Command Requests to initiate Definition Data Delivery at any time, independently of this setting. You can select whether to generate and deliver the Definition Data files in one go or you can specify individual files. You can do so when either the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI initiates the ADDD process via the ISPF Control System or when using the Batch Starter for AAI.

There are various ways to gommand Requests to generate and deliver CA7 Definition Data.

  • Using the ISPF Control interface Option 1

  • By starting the AI7Ccode STC procedure manually

  • Through an Automation solution

  • By submitting the AI7Bcode JCL and specifying the Command Request required as a parameter

Automatic Delivery Run Times

If On Demand Delivery Only is set to N, you can specify up to ten times per day. Format: HHMM.

If On Demand Delivery Only is set to Y, any values entered into these fields will be ignored and deleted.

These times are only used by the CA 7 Data Provider for AAI for starting the Asynchronous Definition Data Delivery process as a child process at the defined time(s) defined. ADDD does the actual generation and delivery of the data.
